Title Deeds
Title is the legal term denoting the right to ownership of a property and the Title Deeds are the legal documents showing who owns a property. They don't just show who owns the property now but are the collected legal documentation of past transfers of ownership as well. Title deeds will contain the precise description of a property.
There may also be 'burdens' or 'real conditions' in the title deeds limiting what may or may not be done on the property, and governing the appointment of factors and decisions affecting common property i.e. the stairwell, the roof, the garden etc., (for those who live in tenements).
Title to property in Scotland is registered in the Land Register of Scotland.
The Registers of Scotland create a 'Title Sheet' for each property. The Title Sheet defines the property extent on an Ordnance Survey map and gives details of price, current owners, mortgage details, conditions ('burdens') affecting the property.
You can search the Land Register in Scotland and obtain copies of relevant deeds for a fee: http://www.ros.gov.uk/index.html
Alternatively, your solicitor who helped you purchase you property may have a copy of your Title Sheet, and the burdens which affect your property.
