wish to write to your mortgage lender or secured loan company to give
them an opportunity to voluntarily refund charges.
If they
agree they may say there are doing so as 'a good will gesture'.

If you do
not know how many arrears charges have been applied to your mortgage
account you can send a Data Protection Act letter.
The maximum statutory charge for this information is £10.
If your
lender ignores your 'step 1 letter' you can send the 'ignored
letter'. If they refuse to refund any mortgage arrears charges
you can send the 'step 2 letter'.
