Prof. Andrew Hamnett

Professor Andrew Hamnett

Our Conference Chair, Prof. Hamnett, is the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Strathclyde. A physical chemist by discipline, he has nearly 200 publications in books and scientific journals, and has held research and academic positions at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and at Oxford and Newcastle Universities.

John Ireson is the Director of SKILL Scotland. SKILL is the National Bureau for Students with Disabilities. It promotes opportunities for people with any kind of disability in learning and employment throughout the UK.

Pamela Duncan

Speaking on the Student's Perspective, we are delighted to have the National Union of Students' SWD (Students With Disabilities) Officer for Scotland, Pamela Duncan. She is also a student at the University of Stirling.

Iain Nisbet

Iain Nisbet

Iain Nisbet is the Associate Solicitor at Govan Law Centre. He has a particular interest and expertise in cases relating to Part 4 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and was the legal adviser (Scots Law) for the Post-16 Code of Practice.

Tony Askham

Tony Askham

Tony Askham is a Partner and Head of Commercial Litigation at Bond Pearce Solicitors. He specializes among other things) in education law.  He is part time Chairman of the Special Education Needs and Disability Tribunal (England) and is a part time Chairman of the Care Standards Tribunal.  He is an associate member of the Chartered nstitute of Arbitrators.  He was the legal adviser (English law) for he Post-16 Code of Practice. 

Lynn Welsh

Lynn Welsh

Lynn Welsh is legal officer and solicitor with the Disability Rights Commission. She was previously Principal Solicitor at Paisley Law Centre where she specialised in Mental Health law. She was instrumental in setting up the DDA RAP in Scotland, which provides free advice and representation to disabled people who wish to bring cases under the 1995 Act.
